Your annual safety check
An MOT is a yearly check to make sure your vehicle is safe, roadworthy and meets UK emissions standards.
During the test, our qualified technicians inspect important parts of your vehicle including the brakes, lights, tyres, suspension and exhaust, ensuring everything works as it should. It is a simple way to keep you, your passengers and other road users safe.
Cars & smaller vehicles
A Class 4 MOT covers the majority of cars and smaller vehicles on the road. This includes family cars, taxis, motorhomes and small vans weighing up to 3,000kg gross weight. It also applies to light commercial vehicles and some three-wheeled vehicles over 450kg.
In short, if you drive a typical car or small van, it will almost certainly need a Class 4 MOT.
From £54.85Larger commercial vehicles
A Class 7 MOT is for larger commercial vehicles weighing between 3,000kg and 3,500kg gross weight, including vehicles such as Ford Transit 350s, Mercedes Sprinters and Renault Masters.
The same key safety and emissions items are checked, with a test designed for heavier vehicles that carry more weight or equipment.
From £58.60Our MOT advice
We recommend a few simple checks before bringing your vehicle for its MOT, giving it the best chance of passing. Check that your lights, wipers and horn work; top up the screenwash and make sure the jets work; check tyre tread and pressures, fully locking the front wheels to inspect the inner treads; and make sure your number plates are clean and easy to read.
If you notice knocking noises over rough roads or unusual dashboard lights, have these checked before the MOT in case they need more time to resolve.
Plan for the day
We recommend booking your MOT for a day when you do not require the vehicle. Even when a vehicle appears likely to pass, the test may identify a small issue that needs attention.
We can usually repair common fail items such as low brake pads or worn tyres on the same day. Some failures take longer to fix; in those cases a courtesy car is available on a first come, first served basis unless pre-booked.
